It is snowing again as I write this. It is even “sticking” and I am hoping I do not have to shovel. I want to shovel dirt, not any! more! snow! But, enough of my whining, today is about blooming. It’s Garden Bloggers Bloom Day, held the 15th of each month and hosted by Carol at May Dreams Gardens. Be sure to visit all of the blooming bloggers that post there for a good dose of beautiful blossoms which is exactly the sort of therapy I need today.
Although fading slightly, my ‘Evergreen’ amaryllis certainly blossomed. I am sharing an earlier picture in its full glory – soak it up!
And, though tooted as common, I am happy to present … swirling spot lights … drum roll … Ms. Witch Hazel! My maybe 3′ tops, witch hazel, Hamamelis virginiana, is beginning to bloom for the very first time! What a spectacular sight. I cannot wait for her to grow taller and fan out, out of the reaches of that big, fat rabbit!
Lastly, for these are all the blooms I have to offer at this desperate-on-the-edge-of-insanity time of year, a few very brave crocus. The picture is blurry because the photographer is freezing HAO while trying to snap a shot with chattering teeth and jittering hands, but just look at that splash of oh-so-welcome color.
There are many courageous shoots about, peeking up from the blanketing earth testing the air. It will warm up soon and then … in the coming months … bloom utopia!

Still snowing here and cold so my few blooms are covered again…supposed to snow for the next week on and off…I am hoping to see a few blooms on my small witch hazel this year.

That little crocus is brave. One tiny bloom in all of my gardens… but she’s a winner! Snow in the forecast for Sunday.

Your garden is just a bit behind mine here in Scotland. The wonder of a plant the first time it flowers is pretty special isn’t it!

There is just nothing like Amaryllis! Next year I want all white. And more Appleblossom; oh it is so hard to choose.
You have witch hazel; we have sassafras blooms. Yours are more colorful.

Evergreen is lovely. I looked at this one in Brent and Becky’s catalog last year, and ended up ordering Green Goddess (also lovely) instead. I’m amazed (and envious) that you already have crocuses beginning to bloom. Here’s hoping that the predicted snow for this week will be very light and quickly gone!

OMG, you have that amaryllis which is at the top of my wish list. I am drooling with envy! I also have a lot of amaryllis but it is mostly. Hippeastrum puniceum, the red-orange variety with circular yellowish throat. I am trying to acquire some colors by exchanging mine. haha! Yours is really adorable. The witch hazel is lovely too, but it is not growing in our climate, only see them in blogs.

Ha you have the same dish drainer I do! How irrelevant a comment is that? The flower is amazing but I can’t stop looking at the dish drainer. Crocuses poking up from the snow though – that brings back memories of childhood. My friends in upstate NY and other places sound just like you – sick of snow. Drop by my blog for a bit of sunny California in a mostly native plant garden, maybe it’ll be cheering. BTW I can totally relate to your enthusiasm over a new plant thriving even though it may be a “common” one – there’s nothing like that joy of seeing plants thrive and show us their loveliness.
