The Violet Fern

A Colorful Tale of a Garden in the Making

Humble Beginnings …

IMG_20190422_115527I haven’t written in a long while. I don’t feel the need as much. I’m busy living and enjoying my life which is such a great thing! But with the start of this week celebrating new beginnings and the earth, I thought I would share my new garden with you. Please bear in mind that it is in its infancy — just three years — and I no longer have the gumption I did when I began the Violet Fern garden. I am much more patient and operate at a much slower pace than I used to, and so does this garden. Also, I am at a learning curve with a whole new world of new plants in a new planting zone 9.

  1. Nice to see your post, Kathy. Everything has grown these past few months! Bit by bit, you are completing your plan. 🙂 The fruit trees look good. It must be nice (and different) to garden in a frost-free zone. No pot breakage! There are so many plants to choose from, basically all those amazing houseplants that limped along in our homes up north. Have you caught the epiphyte bug yet? Bromeliads, orchids and tillandsias, oh my!
You must be getting ready to head north in the next few weeks? Have a safe journey when you do. My best to you and your charming husband! 🙂

    • Thank you Eliza! Oh yes afflicted, quite a few new orchids this year. There is a tillandsia in my near future. Drooling over Xerographica. I have some roadside bromeliad rescues in the island. I think they will take. They are quite expensive in the nurseries! We will head North after Memorial Day – just loving it here. Enjoy Spring!

      • Thanks, it has been glorious so far. All the leaves are tiny and expanding rapidly. Daffs are peaking now – spring is the best! 🙂

Thank you for joining me in the making of my garden!
