The Violet Fern

Creating Art & Gardens

Artist Kathy Sturr

JustMeandMyPaddle

“Just Me and My Paddle”, Watercolor

When not digging or blogging, I am painting. The Violet Fern Garden is an everchanging canvas of light and shadow, shape and contour, color blooms, rich ripeness and buzzing busyness. It is often the spark and subject of my paintings. To read more about Kathy Sturr the artist, view my works, shop for prints, greeting cards and more please visit: www.thevioletfernartstudioandgarden.com.

This watercolor painting is inspired by my beautiful Winter home in Cedar Key, FL. We spent as many days as we could kayaking its magical waters with Mullet jumping ahead and birds flying overhead.

I am especially excited to announce my illustrated children’s book Bear in the Bathtub, a sequel to Bear in the Basket both written by author Joseph W. Orobona of Good As Gold Publications.

  1. Congratulations! I’ve just nominated you for the Versatile Blogger Award. This award is given to those who show a love of Blogging in their work, and I think you do that. It’s up to you if you want to accept this award or not, but I hope you’ll at least go to my post here: http://gardeningingreenwood.wordpress.com/2014/01/08/the-versatile-blogger-award/ and read it to see what the award is all about and make your decision. In any event, Thank You for a wonderful blog and I wish you all the best in the future.

    • Thank you so much Steven. I feel truly honored and I do love blogging. I sincerely appreciate you thinking of my blog but I typically do not accept awards. I was in the midst of an award onslaught a couple of years ago and found it detracted from my purpose of blogging – that is to journal the making of my garden which in turn makes me, the gardener, who I am. Although I do appreciate learning of and meeting other bloggers through this honorary method (especially learning of your blog and beautiful garden!). Many gracious thanks to you! I will be sure to read your post and visit the blogs you have mentioned.

      • You’re very welcome Kathy. I appreciate your letting me know how you feel. I totally understand. I’m feeling that myself these days with so many awards coming in at once. I may follow your lead in the future. Thank you for acknowledging the award and liking my post, and for your kind words about my garden.
Happy Gardening, which is why we’re here I agree… 😉

  2. What a great name for a gardener’s grandmother: Violet Fern.
